It's about damn time we had a movie like BROS

Words / Rjai Fernandez

There’s a reason why romantic comedy thrives as a genre. If love is what makes the world go, then romantic comedies is one of the avenues that keep it moving. I’ve seen my fair share of this genre and I think what makes a good rom-com movie is when we can somehow relate to it. BROS is definitely one of those films.

Whether you're part of the LGBTQ+ community or not, I’m pretty sure that you'll find some bits and pieces that you can relate to. It is an eye opener — it reveals emotions that are relevant to all of us through each characters as they are sympathetically depicted as real people (with their own cracking one liners).

One of the most poignant parts of the film made was a subtl tribute to the unsung heroes of the community who paved the way for most of us. This is not just a movie about finding love, but about knowing that love is everywhere.

Starring Billy Eichner, the first openly gay man to co-write and star in his own major studio film on a project that features an entirely LGBTQIA+ principal cast, BROS is a movie about love. This is a movie with romantic leads that go beyond what mainstream media have convinced us was ‘normal’. Move over, heteronormative rom-coms! There’s a new film in town. See it with your BROS, see it with the people you love.

BROS is out in cinemas nationwide.
